IIPF Awards
One of the tasks the IIPF has set for itself is to encourage younger scholars in their scientific work. To this end, it has instituted two awards, the "Peggy and Richard Musgrave Prize" (created in 2003), and the "IIPF Young Economists Award" (created in 2008).
In both cases, a prize-awarding committee, composed of the chairman of the Scientific Committee and members of the Board of Management, chooses the awardees amongst the paper presenters at each annual congress.
Richard Musgrave Visiting Professorship
Together with the CESifo Group Munich, the IIPF established in 2008 the Richard Musgrave Visiting Professorship to honour the memory of one of Public Finance’s greatest scholars. Richard Musgrave began his studies at the University of Munich and was a founding member of CESifo.
The award winner is chosen through a formal selection procedure by the President and Vice Presidents of IIPF, together with the head of the CESifo Group. The first-ever winner was Alan Auerbach, followed this year by Michael Keen. Both, as part of the award, became Distinguished CESifo Fellows.
The awardee spends several weeks at the Ifo Institute and gives the Richard Musgrave Lecture, a non-technical lecture on a public policy issue, at the Ifo Institute or the LMU University of Munich.
African Public Policy Award
The first African Public Policy Award was given by GTZ in connection with the 2009 Annual Congress of the International Institute of Public Finance (IIPF).
